How To Love The Girl In The Mirror

We recommend helpful products in our articles. Read our full disclosure here.

When was the last time you compared yourself to anyone else? Probably not so long ago. We are in a society where we are used to comparing ourselves to others… And it doesn’t stop at that.

When we start comparing, we also try to change ourselves in order to get approval from others, just to feel better. We seek admiration and try to become what others want us to be.

We try to be someone else.

When you look at the girl in the mirror, what do you see?

If you’ve been struggling to have a positive self-image, you might focus on your flaws, your curvy edges, your pimples or scars, or plenty of other things that make you feel imperfect. T

hen you think about all those women you see on TV or the internet that seem so perfect that you can hardly find any flaw in them.

You want to be like them.

You want others to admire you as they admire them. But can you really compare yourself to an airbrushed image on the internet or a person who’s main job is to look pretty? Even if you try to, you’ll only end up being dissatisfied and envy, which brings nothing but negativity in your life.

It is time for you to start loving the girl in the mirror, the way she is. It’s time to accept her, and love her to the fullest because you have to live with yourself the rest of your life – do you really want to go all that way just hating yourself?

If you are ready to fight all those resentful feelings and thoughts about yourself, here are some ways to start.

How To Love The Girl In The Mirror

1) Embrace yourself

You have a set of food choices, your habits are different from others, and you have a unique physical body. You have to accept all of this and embrace yourself. Of course, this can be difficult – especially when you’re used to thoughts of “being wrong” and “not perfect” roaming in your mind. But it’s not impossible. It just takes time.

Additionally, people have this habit of commenting on everybody’s physique and health… You might do this yourself, and you might be the object of these comments as well. Just remember that essentially, if you are letting your self-esteem down because of anyone’s comments, you are letting them win.

2) Take care of your health

You deserve better than just blaming yourself for not being perfect. Don’t do this to yourself – instead, grab this list of the things that you can do for better health. If you want to love your body, you must start taking care of it as of this moment! Not to judge yourself or to see if you are perfect… Just for your good health. Start with doing some exercise daily, taking good nutrition, and drinking enough water.

3) Be grateful

The best gift you can give yourself is the gift of gratitude. You can make a list of the things that you are thankful for in your life, but to start loving yourself more, make your body the focus and start with the things that are good in it. Do you have beautiful hair? Nice arms? Kind eyes? Notice it. Appreciate every single centimeter of your body.

Also, take a look around and see the things that you have been enjoying, but never had a chance to acknowledge their presence. This gratitude list can be a great eye-opener. Once you feel good about these things, you will see a change in your behavior and thoughts.

4) Limit your social media usage

You might think that it has nothing do with you being resentful about yourself but actually, social media is playing a big role in shaping your thoughts. Social media can make us question ourselves in various ways. People there show their glittery lives to make you think that they have everything… And those are all lies. Their perfect bodies and luxury lives make you think that you have nothing, but this is just an image to make you believe them (because then they can sell whatever they’re trying to sell you).

If you want to use social media for any purpose, beware of the posts that are making you feel bad. Know that social media is shaping your thoughts on purpose – never let them manipulate you.

5) Surround yourself with good people

Your company matters a lot. Do you have friends who brag about their lives and body image all the time? Do they make you feel like you have to be better, look better, lose weight yada yada yada? Well, it is time to change your company.

Make friends that value the inner you and that are there to help you find the best in you, rather than making you feel like you aren’t good enough. Have friends that support you rather than criticize you all the time. In fact, if all of your friends are mean and always trying to bring you down… I’d rather have no friends at all!

Loving yourself is an essential element of a healthy and prosperous life. You must not let any external element ruin your peace. It is yours to own, your to protect and yours to enjoy. Love the girl in the mirror to go through your life with confidence and self-respect. Make a decision to be your best friend and once you start loving yourself more, you’ll see that other people admire you more as well.
